Udegeysha

In the photo project “Udegeisha” I wanted to show a descendant of the indigenous inhabitants of the Far East — the Udege. show how the traditions of their ancestors were imprinted on their generation. as a descendant of shamans, he carries knowledge of an ancient family.

It is correct, of course, to say Udegeyka. however. in the word “udegeisha” there are piercing words: woman, shaman.

It is the Udege women who keep the traditions of the ancient people who inhabited the Far East. This photo project is about what is forgotten and what is impossible to forget. a woman carries traditions, ancient knowledge, she is not ashamed of it, she is proud of it. It is she who mourns the lost traditions, the lost roots and people.

I want to talk about one of the ancient peoples: its traditions, place of residence, its fate. this will be a big story

Dasha

Udegeyka, who surprisingly honors and knows the traditions of her people. Thanks to her closeness with her Udege grandmother, Dasha knows a lot about her people and their traditions. Dasha’s family included shamans — respected members of the Udege community. her grandmother still keeps knowledge about the old gods of the Udege

The legends of the family are intertwined with music. a complex network of beliefs and folklore is passed on from woman to woman. this responsibility fell on their shoulders, as if returning us to the ancient work of a woman as a keeper of the hearth. Like fire, she carries knowledge about the people from generation to generation, not allowing us to forget, allowing us to hold our heads proudly
